Working days in the range
—
Choose valid dates, starting between 1900 and 2100, with a span of at most 100 years.
Count the working days between two dates, or add and subtract working days from one, against a real holiday calendar rather than a naive weekday count. The holidays that were skipped are listed by name, so a deadline can be checked rather than trusted.
Step by step
01Choose the calendar first
US (widely observed) or UK England & Wales. This is the setting that changes the answer — the same two dates give different totals depending on whose holidays apply.
02Count between two dates, or add days to one
Between for how long something took or how long is left. Add or subtract for a deadline expressed in working days, using a negative number to go backwards.
03Read the breakdown, not just the total
Calendar days, weekend days, and the number of holidays skipped are reported separately, along with the holidays by name and date.
04Check which convention you needed
Choose whether the start date counts. The highlighted calendar and totals follow that choice, because contracts and SLAs disagree about the first day.
Worked example
Three ways of counting the same fortnight in the United States. Each is a defensible number, and only one answers 'within ten working days'.
Given
Same twelve days, three totals
calendar days 12 (inclusive)
minus weekends 10 Sat/Sun x2
minus holidays 8 Christmas Day
New Year's Day
a naive weekday count says 10.
the answer is 8. two days of a deadline
disappear into a calendar nobody checked. The gap between a weekday count and a business-day count is entirely holidays, and it clusters exactly where deadlines cluster — late December, the spring bank holidays, and the week of Thanksgiving. A ten-working-day SLA agreed in November and measured with a naive weekday count is two days optimistic in the one period when nobody is available to make up the difference.
Before you promise a date
Weekend rules are not universal
Monday to Friday is the assumption here and it is not the world's. Much of the Middle East works Sunday to Thursday, and several countries have a half-day Saturday. Any cross-border SLA needs the counterparty's working week agreed in writing, not assumed.
Inclusive or exclusive changes the number
Whether the start date counts is a convention, not a fact, and contracts split on it. The business-day figure here counts both endpoints when they are working days, and the inclusive calendar span is shown alongside so you can see which one you are quoting.
Observed dates move, and that is deliberate
A US federal holiday falling on a Saturday is observed the preceding Friday, and one falling on a Sunday the following Monday — so Independence Day 2026, a Saturday, is observed on Friday 3 July. The calendar here follows that rule, which is what employers actually do.
Company calendars are not public ones
Firms close between Christmas and New Year, add local days, and honour regional holidays no national calendar knows about. Use this as the baseline and layer your own closures on top — the number here is the floor, not the final answer.
Easter moves, so the spring count moves with it
Good Friday and Easter Monday are computed per year rather than fixed, which means the working days in March and April genuinely differ year on year. A quarter-over-quarter comparison of throughput has to account for it.
Everything is computed locally
The holiday calendars ship with the page, so counting works offline and no dates are sent anywhere — which matters when the dates are an unannounced launch or a legal deadline.
The judgement call
The question being asked determines which of these numbers is the right one to quote.
Within 10 working days
Business days
The whole point of the phrase is that weekends and holidays do not count against the promise.
A deadline N working days from today
Add mode
Skips weekends and holidays as it walks forward, which hand-counting on a calendar reliably gets wrong.
Backdating a notice period
Negative days
The same walk in reverse. Useful for working out the last date a notice could have been served.
Interest, rent, or anything accruing daily
Calendar days
Money does not take the weekend off. Use the plain span, not the business-day count.
An SLA with an overseas counterparty
Agree the calendar
Their weekend and their holidays may both differ. This tool covers US and UK; anything else needs stating in the contract.
Your own company's shutdown week
Adjust by hand
No public calendar knows about it. Subtract your closures from the figure here.

FAQ
Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays in the calendar you select — US (widely observed) or UK (England & Wales). Weekends are always excluded; which holidays count depends entirely on the calendar, which is why the choice is explicit rather than assumed.
The business-days calculator counts both dates by default when they are working days. Turn off Count both dates to exclude the start. The calendar highlights exactly which dates contribute to the result.
Yes. Enter a positive number of business days to add or a negative number to subtract; the result skips weekends and any holidays in the selected calendar. That is the mode to use for deadlines expressed as within ten working days.
Usually a week, and occasionally more than two. Three business days from a Monday lands on Thursday, but three from a Thursday lands on the following Tuesday, and a holiday in between pushes it to Wednesday. That is why a shipping estimate quoted in business days cannot be turned into a calendar date in your head — set the start date and add 3, then 5, to see the real window.
About 250 in the US and 253 in England & Wales — 261 or 262 weekdays, less the ten US federal holidays or the eight England & Wales bank holidays, and less any that already fall on a weekend. It varies by a day or two depending on how the year's weekends line up, so count the actual year rather than reusing last year's number.
Put today in the start field and the deadline in the end field. The count excludes weekends and the holidays in your chosen calendar, and names the ones it skipped — which is the difference between a deadline you can commit to and one you have assumed.
Ten: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Columbus Day is not included, since most private employers do not observe it. Dates falling on a weekend shift to the nearest weekday, the way federal observance does.
Eight for England and Wales: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, the early May and spring bank holidays, the summer bank holiday, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Easter is calculated per year. Scotland and Northern Ireland have different calendars, and one-off royal or commemorative bank holidays are not included.
The holiday calendars ship with the page, so counting runs offline in your browser. No dates are transmitted.
