A format name is only the start of a print specification

Finished size describes the trimmed sheet. Artwork sent to a commercial printer usually needs bleed outside that edge and a safe area inside it. Each format profile calculates common 3 mm and 5 mm bleed canvases, then converts the finished dimensions to pixels at five practical resolutions without treating screen pixels as a physical measurement.

ISO A and B sheets keep the 1:√2 proportion, so folding or cutting a sheet in half preserves the layout ratio. North American office and architectural sheets use different proportions; moving a design between them can change line breaks, margins, and imposition. The closest-size section on every profile compares both dimensions, not just total area.
